actually its about black slave banana pickers being forced
to continue working throughout the night until the colonial 'tallyman'
or overseer has approved their work to be sufficient by 'tallying
[their] bananas'.
I heard an interview with Harry Belafonte on the radio the other day, it
is horrible to think that slavery was so recent and the horror of it.
It really is a dark side of our history. He told a story of when he went
in to the incorrect toilet (a 'whites' only) and an American guy said
to him if you let go of one drop you are a 'dead nigger' it's horrible
to think that was so recent, however it is also good to look at how far
things have improved.
