In this interview from May 1961, a 42 year-old Nelson Mandela gives his views on a multi-racial South Africa with equal opportunities and rights for all South Africans.

About one year after this interview, he was imprisoned for twenty-seven
years - of which eighteen years were spent on the infamous Robben

Nelson Mandela was released in 1990, and from 1994–99 served as president of South Africa following the country's first multi-racial elections. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 together with former President Frederik Willem de Klerk for their role in ending the apartheid era.
